Further Details:
Lohas Beans is a Colombia-based coffee exporter and collective founded on the principles of sustainability, transparency, and social responsibility. The company partners directly with smallholder and indigenous farmers across Colombia’s key coffee regions, including Huila, Nariño, Tolima, and Santander, to produce traceable microlots of exceptional quality. These farms are typically located between 1,400 and 2,000 meters above sea level, where rich volcanic soils, cool highland climates, and shade-grown systems foster slow cherry maturation and complex flavor development.
The network cultivates traditional and specialty varietals such as Caturra, Castillo, Pink Bourbon, and Caturra Chiroso, using innovative fermentation methods that highlight Colombia’s unique terroir. Many of Lohas Beans’ lots employ a double fermentation process—first aerobic, then anaerobic. In this method, freshly harvested cherries are initially fermented in open tanks, allowing controlled oxygen exposure that promotes the growth of natural yeasts and the breakdown of mucilage. They are then transferred to sealed containers for a secondary anaerobic stage, where oxygen is limited, intensifying the development of fruity esters, sweetness, and aromatic depth.
After fermentation, the coffee is slowly dried on raised beds or patios under carefully monitored conditions to preserve structure and flavor balance. Depending on the lot, processing may be washed, honey, or natural, each emphasizing different sensory characteristics.
Lohas Beans maintains a strong focus on sustainability and community empowerment. Through fair pricing, organic certification support, and regenerative farming initiatives, the company uplifts producers while preserving soil health and biodiversity. By combining precision processing with ethical sourcing, Lohas Beans delivers coffees that express both technical excellence and a deep respect for people and the planet.
